SAWA Devotional
Project
Dear Auxiliary Member,
We are exploring the possibility of publishing a Devotional Book with original and inspirational contributions from our members. It is an opportunity to share thoughts, perspectives and prayers from our experiences in The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. Anyone who has been a long-time member knows how much has been accomplished since our founding, with tremendous benefits going to support the programs of the Army in Houston. It has been a labor of love by many dedicated and energetic women, who happily recognize that our own rewards come from seeing what our labors provide, not necessary what it does for us personally.
We have enjoyed friends and fellowship, getting to know, or know better, a friend through shared work, projects, events, and special personal moments. Many of the moments have been captured through photos in our annual scrapbooks. Now, how about an opportunity to express in words what being a member of the Auxiliary has meant to you?
Let us be inspired to create a devotional book that shares our stories of faith, work, commitment, community, fun, and so much more. Can you think of something in your Auxiliary activities that enriched your faith, or strengthened it? Was there a person, activity or event that made a difference in your life? Would you like to express how The Salvation Army has connected you to others and made a difference? There are many stories among us that could be so inspirational. Reflect on the genesis and growth of our Auxiliary, the women and relationships that made it possible. Inspire others to be involved and to grow in service. If one page can affect or change one life.....
If you are interested in participating, the recommended guidelines follow below. You may submit as many devotionals as you like. You also may send an idea or synopsis that one of our writers can use to create a devotional. We can do this!
Requirements:
Content must be original composition, except for Bible verses, of course. Quotations from other sources may be used if properly cited and attributed to original author. Where Bible verses are used, cite version of Bible, i.e., King James, NIV, NRSV, etc. Length of 200 words or less. All contributions will be edited by a professional book editor, for length, punctuation, grammar, continuity.
Suggestions/Format:
Tell a personal story, something of importance to you that would represent an encouragement or inspire someone else’s faith; relate how a particular Bible verse was affective or what it meant personally. All forms of creativity accepted - stories, poems, psalms, life lessons, spirituals - as long as it is original. Past Chaplains are welcome to submit devotionals used in our meetings.
